Learn about patient‑reported measures (PRMs) including what they are and how your information is used, and find supporting resources.
What are patient-reported measures?
PRMs are surveys that ask about:
- your health and wellbeing
- how you are feeling
- how your condition affects your daily life
- your experience of care.
PRMs are intended to be completed by you. They may also be completed by your carer or in consultation with a clinician if necessary.
There are two types of PRMs:
PREMs capture a person's perception of their experience with healthcare or services.
PROMs capture a person's perspectives on how illness or care impacts on their health and wellbeing.
How patient-reported measures help
PROMs can:
- help your care team understand how you are really feeling
- support better conversations during appointments
- guide decisions about treatment or care
- identify changes in your health over time
- improve services for future patients.
Your responses are part of your health record. Clinicians involved in your care may review PROMs to support your treatment. De-identified information may also be used to help improve health services.
How to complete a survey
PRM surveys may be completed in several ways, including:
- by SMS
- by email
- on a tablet provided or your own device while receiving care
- on paper
- with support from your clinician during an appointment
- with support from a carer completing a survey on your behalf.
There are no right or wrong answers. What matters most is your honest response.
