Health and the arts

Connection with the arts and culture is beneficial to health and wellbeing.

The Health and the Arts Framework 2024-2032 highlights the role of the arts in providing patients, staff and communities with positive experiences within healthcare settings. Building on the first statewide framework released in 2016, it provides new guidance on success factors for embedding the arts into our facilities and healthcare.

The arts play a significant role in complementing the experience of care. The Framework recognises this impact across the NSW Health system, integrating the arts to support key health challenges such as workforce strategies, Aboriginal health, aged care and mental health.

Implementing the new Framework will contribute to meeting our Future Health strategic priorities, the NSW Regional Health Strategic Plan 2022–2023 and the NSW Aboriginal Health Plan 2024–2032.

Health and the arts projects on the Innovation Exchange

The Innovation Exchange is a collaborative place to share and promote local innovation and improvement projects taking place across NSW Health. It also facilitates the exchange of ideas on how to incorporate arts across our health system.

The platform features a dedicated arts and health section, which includes a list of arts-related projects and a collection of resources available to help inform and inspire excellence in partnerships, health and the arts practice and programs, and the pursuit of evaluation and research.
