This framework outlines a consistent, risk-based approach to using AI across the NSW public health system. It is guided by consumer-centred care, transparency, accountability and trust.
What is artificial intelligence?
The NSW Government defines artificial intelligence (AI) as the ability of a computer system to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning and decision making. AI encompasses various specialised domains that focus on different tasks.
The NSW Health AI Framework complements existing national and state requirements. It supports sustainable innovation by ensuring the safe, ethical and effective use of AI across the health system.
The framework identifies the laws and policies that apply to NSW Health, clarifies how existing AI policies should be applied in our context, and outlines additional considerations for AI projects.
Its vision is to enable the responsible and equitable integration of AI to enhance health outcomes and workforce experience.
Use this framework as a practical guide, alongside existing NSW Health policies, to support the adoption and implementation of new digital technologies.
Explore the 7 priority areas, along with their supporting principles, policies, guidance and practical considerations for integrating AI across NSW Health. Consider these within the broader AI landscape, including state and national requirements.
