A number of surgical procedures have strong evidence for the safety and suitability of admission and discharge on the same day.
The same day and extended day surgery admission model supports quality and safety for patients by establishing consistent care for commonly performed surgical procedures.
This model is for all staff involved in the surgical care of patients. It provides the most up to date advice, is validated based on contemporary practice and literature, and is supported by tools to provide direction to NSW Health organisations to effectively implement the model.
