This toolkit provides practical guidance to support healthcare professionals to safely and effectively perform bladder irrigation for adult patients in NSW public hospitals.
The toolkit includes:
- guidance on manual, continuous and intermittent bladder irrigation
- patient care considerations
- clinical assessment tools to support the evaluation of knowledge, skills and competency in bladder irrigation.
This guidance is intended for use in acute care or inpatient settings where appropriate equipment and specialist support are available.
Care for Aboriginal people requiring bladder irrigation should always be culturally safe. This includes how you engage with families, carers and community; and integrate care with Aboriginal health services to strengthen the Aboriginal workforce and deliver culturally appropriate care.
