Centralised quality management system

The Blood and Marrow Transplant + Cellular Therapies Network maintains the centralised quality management system for the NSW blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapies programs.

The quality management system is a unique service provided to highly specialised programs of life saving treatments. For successful delivery of the system, we work collaboratively to harness the knowledge the expertise of laboratory and clinical teams. We work alongside these teams to review current practice, implement change and continued improvement.

Accreditation

The centralised quality system supports accreditation to:

  • ISO 15819 Medical laboratories — Requirements for quality and competence
  • National Association of Testing Authorities
  • Royal College of Pathologists
  • National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council
  • Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy and the Joint Accreditation Committee (FACT-JACIE)

Audits of clinical and lab activities

Our quality team performs internal audits against the accreditation standards and local laboratory and clinical procedures.

Process and document development

We work collaboratively with laboratory scientists and clinical staff to develop standard operating procedures, guidelines and forms used to maintain a high level of laboratory and clinical practice.

We support change management and validation of laboratory and clinical practice.

Quality improvement

Our independent oversight facilitates local and system improvements via management of non-conformances, patient experience and quality of life surveys, efficacy reviews of therapies and support of working groups.
