Welcome to Pain Bytes.
This series is designed to help you understand more about your chronic pain to help you get back on track and back into life.
We'll follow a bunch of amazing kids just like you as they share their stories and tips on how they take the bite out of their pain.
We'll also get useful tips from experts and you'll find some hints and exercises to get you started on the road to managing your pain.
You're best off watching the seven episodes in order and consider sharing them with your family - the more they know the more they can help you So there's a lot you can do to help with your pain, to help reduce it, to improve what you can do even when it's present so you can do more of the things that you are missing, the things that you really kind of feel like a sense of loss that you are not doing any more, and maybe even new and different things that will really help you grow and learn, and most of all friendships and getting back to the fun side of being a young person, and some of those skills may seem a little bit tricky at first but if you stick with it, if you persist it can really pay off.
I've seen lots of young people with pain in the Children's Pain Clinic, in the Young People Pain Clinic and they seem at the beginning not to have that confidence and to share my confidence that they are going to do really well but over time, they really, it's their hard work that does it all really, them and the support of the people around them that gets them through and really takes them to a place where they're able to do so much more with their lives than they can at the beginning.
Pain can be conquered.
I have learnt how to manage my pain better and I'm able to do sport again, I've been going to school for a long period of time.
I do homework, catch up with friends, I do everything normally.
Once my specialist was able to explain to me about how pain worked and I was able to understand about it more that was really good for me knowing about the techniques that I could use to overcome my pain and I think that was probably a crucial turning point for me knowing about that and it was able to help me launch myself into the next few months which were the final months in the process of getting over this chronic pain.
So first up what is pain anyway? You can find out in Episode One.
