Allergy diet - latex free

This document is part of the ACI Diet Specifications for Adult Inpatients. It is not to be used for patient education.

Aim

To provide a diet that excludes all foods that might cause reactions in individuals with latex allergy.

Characteristics

Avoids bananas, avocadoes, kiwifruit, tomatoes, passionfruit, plums and pineapple.

Indications

Latex allergy.

Nutritional adequacy

Nutritionally adequate.

Precautions

Cross-reactions to foods are not generally life-threatening, but can cause unpleasant tingling, itching and discomfort in the mouth and throat. It is important to ensure that food-handling processes prevent contamination from latex gloves.

Paediatrics

Suitable for use in paediatrics when combined with an age-appropriate diet.
