Screening and assessment

The two-step screening and assessment process can be used by clinicians to screen for a client’s risk of, and then assess for, cognitive impairment.

  1. Use the alcohol and drug cognitive enhancement (ACE) screening tool to identify people who are at risk.
  2. If someone is at risk, then use the brief executive function assessment tool (the BEAT) to identify cognitive impairment.

Screening

The brief and simple 12-item ACE screening tool can be administered by alcohol and drug clinicians to identify clients at risk of cognitive impairment.
