The two-step screening and assessment process can be used by clinicians to screen for a client’s risk of, and then assess for, cognitive impairment.
- Use the alcohol and drug cognitive enhancement (ACE) screening tool to identify people who are at risk.
- If someone is at risk, then use the brief executive function assessment tool (the BEAT) to identify cognitive impairment.
The brief and simple 12-item ACE screening tool can be administered by alcohol and drug clinicians to identify clients at risk of cognitive impairment.
