Pre-consultation preparation

Scheduling a virtual consultation should follow the same process as booking an in-person consultation.

Key considerations

  • Schedule appointment
  • Book required staff and equipment
  • Send appointment link and supporting resources to all participants
  • Conduct a test call

  • Schedule an appointment and book required resources, such as staff, equipment and a meeting space, if needed.
  • Arrange imaging or pathology, if needed.

Send the following appointment information to all participants in advance.

  • How to join the appointment and the link to the platform
  • Information for consumers on how to use the platform, such as a user guide
  • Troubleshooting guide
  • Referral(s) and forms
  • Billing information, where required
  • Supporting resources that outline tips for effective videoconferencing and etiquette, such as joining from a quiet place
  • What to do if there are any issues that prevent the consultation from occurring, such as to contact the service via telephone

Conduct a test call with participants before the appointment to identify and resolve any connectivity issues. The test call can be conducted by any member of your team and may only be required before the first appointment.
