Introduction of a strengths-focused consumer model
Sydney Local Health District
Collaborative and recovery-orientated practice in the community through adoption of the strengths model to support the consumer and working towards what matters to them.
Marrickville Community Mental Health Centre, SLHD
How was the project embedded within practice?
The strengths model harnesses on consumer participation to understand and support what matters to the consumer. This includes what recovery goals that they want to work towards. It is a positive model that focuses on strengths rather than deficiencies, and allows the consumer to identify new interests and activities.
What worked well?
- Positive feedback from consumers and clinicians.
- Provided a way of working for consumer peer workers in community mental health teams. However, it did highlight that the consumer peer worker role in community mental health teams requires further development.
