Wound management alone will not guarantee a healed wound and may result in recurrence. Successful wound healing requires:

• An individualised management plan
• Addressing all contributing factors
• The involvement of an interdisciplinary team
• Early referral to tertiary SCI service when required
• The person to be actively engaged in the process of self-management
• The involvement of families and carers to motivate and support the person
