Glaucoma

Introduction

  • Periorbital pain or headache, often severe

  • Patients feel generally unwell, nauseous and anxious

  • Visual disturbances - may initially be a vague haziness

Assessment

  • Irregular semi-dilated pupil

  • Hazy cornea

  • Red eye, shallow anterior chamber

  • Affected eye very tender and tense to palpation

Management

  • Acetazolamide under direction from specialist

  • urgent referral to ophthalmologist

Disposition

  • As per specialist advice
