Connecting clinicians to embrace
innovation
We bring clinicians together to inform, co-design and implement healthcare innovations. We are committed to broadening clinical engagement to ensure our networks are vibrant, sustainable and dynamic in membership and leadership.
New Medical Leads Group to elevate the clinical voice
Within our new structure, medical directors from across the ACI will come together as a Medical Leads Group, reporting directly to the Chief Executive.
Medical directors will collaborate with their clinical networks, while also form a specialist group to provide a strong clinical voice, influencing strategy and system decisions through the Health System Advisory Council.

Engaging with clinicians using a variety of models
Our 40 clinical networks, institutes and taskforces bring clinicians, health leaders and consumers together to drive change and share knowledge across different clinical areas and settings. In 2024, we established several communities of practice, reference groups and taskforces, including:
- NSW Statewide Initiative for Diabetes Management Community of Practice to address diabetes management and keeping people out of hospital.
- Pain Management in Multicultural Communities Working Group to improve access to pain services for people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Rehabilitation Nurse Leaders Coalition to explore workforce challenges and education opportunities, including a focus on building capability in junior staff.
- Patient Reported Measures (PRMs) Community of Interest to share experiences in the implementation of PRMs.
Showcasing local innovations with promise
This year, we hosted various showcase events bringing together clinicians, consumers and system leaders to share promising innovations.
- Mental Health Innovation Showcase shared developments in trauma-informed care across the health system with more than 300 clinicians
- Annual Rural Innovations Changing Healthcare (RICH) Forum. This year’s theme was Community at the centre: Empowering rural healthcare for all. More than 430 clinicians attended the forum to hear about rural models of care which have potential for broader implementation.
- Drug and Alcohol Innovation Forum: Ideas for the Future with more than 200 consumers and clinicians hearing about virtual care and rehabilitation; new treatments; improving client outcomes; addressing workforce challenges working with consumers.
- Four Virtual Care Exchange Forums showcased local and industry virtual models of care, attended by more than 300 health workers across the year.

Clinicians discuss how to break down barriers to criteria led discharge
Criteria led discharge (CLD) enables nursing, allied health and junior medical staff to review patients and initiate inpatient discharge, if they have the knowledge, skills and competencies. This can improve efficiency and patient flow.
In May, we facilitated a roundtable discussion with 80 clinicians, health managers and system leaders, to explore barriers to CLD implementation, and identify ways to increase adoption. Actionable recommendations were delivered to the Statewide CLD Steering Committee.
