Enabling innovation
and change

We support innovation and capability building across NSW Health, empowering staff through education, training and support for locally implemented projects.

Award-winning Centre for Healthcare Redesign builds capability to address local healthcare challenges

Our Centre for Healthcare Redesign has been nationally recognised for its contribution to work-integrated learning, providing a unique opportunity for the 900+ NSW Health staff who have graduated the course since 2007.

Our Centre for Healthcare Redesign team received the 2024 Collaboration Award by the Australian Collaborative Education Network for its partnership with the University of Tasmania to deliver the course.

“Through the program, we were able to improve waiting times and streamline the patient journey, significantly enhancing access to care. On a personal level, I gained a deep understanding of process analysis using the redesign methodology; learned to validate and interpret data; and developed communication strategies to implement change.”

10 years of the Innovation Exchange - bridging the innovation ecosystem across NSW Health

The Innovation Exchange offers a way to showcase projects and share solutions to local challenges. This helps reduce duplication of work and foster connections with colleagues across NSW Health who can learn from, adapt or build on the success of others.

  • This year marks 10 years since the Innovation Exchange first launched.
  • 60+ new projects have been added by 100+ contributors this year.
  • We have introduced themed collections to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between health staff. The first collection focuses on care at home and in the community.

“The ACI program has brought local Safeguards teams together based on the needs of each team, allowing those facing a problem to speak with someone who has worked out a solution or is doing it well.”

Building capability for Safeguards mental health teams

We are supporting local Safeguards teams to build capability in delivery of mental healthcare to 1,400 children in need of mental health support.

  • NSW Health Safeguards teams include mental health professionals who provide care for children and adolescents suffering from acute mental health issues. Launched in 2021, we are supporting the four-year statewide rollout.
  • This year, we delivered the Safeguards Redesign Capability Program, which enables teams to implement a local model of care in their local health district or specialty health network.
  • This involved 20 workshops, 10 site-specific workshops, 18 site visits and 399 coaching sessions.
