Person-centred is involving the person in decisions and planning.

Person-directed is where the person directs all decisions and planning.

Often the person requires more guidance and direction from clinicians in the early period after their injury. As they become more familiar and confident with their understanding of their injury, what rehabilitation can do to help them and what services are available to them to support their recovery, they can become more directive in planning.

Build their understanding of their condition and the options available to treat or manage it. Help them evaluate the impact various therapies and interventions are having on their recovery, so they can decide what works well for them and what doesn’t. Help them see their successes and their failures, so they can begin to moderate their goals for themselves.
