Trauma patient reported measures

The trauma patient reported measures (PRMs) program aims to enable trauma patients to provide direct, timely feedback about their injury-related outcomes and experiences. This will drive improvement across the NSW trauma system.

The program is a vital part of the trauma outcomes and quality registry evaluation (TORQUE) project being undertaken by the Institute of Trauma and Injury Management.

Overview of patient reported measures

About trauma patient reported measures

Patients will provide direct, timely feedback about their health-related outcomes and experiences to improve trauma care and clinical interactions. The data collected through this program, in combination with the trauma data collected in the hospital clinical setting, will be used to improve clinical practice and quality of life, identify excellence in trauma care and drive system-wide improvements.

The trauma PRMs program includes two types of surveys:

  • Patient reported experience measures (PREMs)
  • Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs)

PREMs capture the patient's perception of their experience with healthcare or services. PREMs help us to gain valuable information about what we are doing well and what areas we need to focus on.

PROMs capture the patient's perspectives about how illness or care impacts on their health and wellbeing. The survey responses help the healthcare providers to better understand what matters most to the patient.

Using this feedback, we can also inform the health system about where it is performing well and where there are opportunities for improvement. This will enable service delivery to ensure patients have the best possible experiences and outcomes from their healthcare.
