Intellectual Disability Network Report Feedback

This report is a summary of work by the ACI Intellectual Disability Health Network towards a health system that results in better healthcare and better outcomes for people with an intellectual disability (ID). It sets out the case for change by examining current disparities between health outcomes for those with an ID and the general population. It is aimed at the whole of the health sector – and anyone providing a service to a person with an ID.

It has the following drivers:

  • People with ID and their carers want to work with health services to improve the health care they receive and their ability to access appropriate health services.
  • Clinicians and managers in NSW health services are keen to provide a better quality of service for people with ID, but need expert support and advice to do so.
  • There is a need for better data about the health needs of people with ID, and their use of health services.
