Advisory groups and communities of practice

The Intensive Care NSW Executive Committee is responsible for formulating, advising, progressing and delivering the Intensive Care NSW remit and work plan. The role of the Executive Committee will be to:

  • support Intensive Care NSW to achieve objectives;
  • inform and guide the strategic direction of the network;
  • support the working groups and advisory committees to undertake the work identified in the Intensive Care NSW work plan;
  • ensure the work plan, research plan and annual reports are completed and signed-off;
  • prioritise work activities and initiatives;
  • provide reports for the ACI and key stakeholders as required on the progress and achievements of Intensive Care NSW.

The Intensive Care NSW Executive Committee structure has been designed to ensure there is representation of IC clinicians and key stakeholders. The Committee consist of the following:

Working Groups and Advisory Committees

  • Nurse Leaders Group

    The Nurse Leaders working group is made up of intensive care nurse leaders across NSW with a focus to work on projects that affect delivery of patient centred care, the intensive care visitor experience and nursing workforce engagement.

  • Paediatric Advisory Group

    The Paediatric Intensive Care Advisory Group (PICAG) is comprised of intensive care clinicians providing expert advice on paediatric intensive care issues and concerns within NSW. The group supports future direction and delivery of quality intensive care services  in the state.

  • CNC Advisory Group

    The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Advisory Group is made up of CNC’s from NSW Local Health Districts. The group collaborates on current emerging themes and issues to improve intensive care services across the state.

  • ECMO Advisory Group

    THE ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) Advisory Group provides a forum for analysis and assessment of information regarding the quality of patient care in NSW intensive care units for patients receiving ECMO. This group identifies issues relating to patient safety and looks at the quality of ECMO provision.

  • Performance Working Group

    The Performance Working Group has been established to provide a forum for the systematic analysis and assessment of information regarding the quality of patient care in NSW intensive care units. This committee will monitor data and identify issues pertaining to patient safety and quality in ICUs. The group aims to assist NSW ICUs achieve the best possible outcomes for the critically ill.

In addition, Intensive Care NSW organise and run the Intensive Care Community of Practice (ICCoP). This forum brings together clinicians who share a common interest and expertise to network, share and improve knowledge about COVID-19. The role of the ICCoP is to continue with COVID updates and has also expanded to cover topics relevant to intensive care services in NSW, as well as provide a forum for general discussion.
