Feedback on the guidance for PICU admission, discharge and return transfer process document

The NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation is seeking feedback on the attached draft document: Guidance on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit admission, discharge and return transfer process.

Addressing recommendations

In 2019 the NSW Ministry of Health released the Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Services Consultation Report and Recommendations (PICNIC), which supports the planning and provision of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) services in NSW. The attached guidance document addresses the PICNIC recommendation: ‘Admission, discharge and return transfer process document for Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU).’

The document is developed to support clinicians in non-tertiary paediatric services to navigate the process of a PICU admission with developed criteria and a flowchart of the admission and discharge process from a PICU that provides opportunity for clinicians to return transfer in a supported process.

The document was developed with an expert multidisciplinary clinician working group, including a review of the current evidence, relevant incident data using IIMS and IIMS+, a gap analysis of existing guides and current practice.
