The NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation is seeking feedback on the attached draft document: Model of Care for close observation units and beds for level 3-5 Paediatric services.
In 2019 the NSW Ministry of Health released the Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Services Consultation Report and Recommendations (PICNIC), which supports the planning and provision of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) services in NSW. The attached document addresses the PICNIC recommendation: ‘Develop a statewide model of care for close observation beds in level 3 and 4 paediatric units, including clear definition of the patient cohort’.
The model of care describes the requirements for a COU/B paediatric service, its networks, workforce capabilities and specific risk considerations. The model of care provides guidance on the cohort of patients to be managed in a COU/B, including admission examples and criteria, conditions for escalation, the step down, and return transfer of care
The document was developed with an expert multidisciplinary clinician working group, including a review of the current evidence, relevant incident data using IIMS and IIMS+, a gap analysis of existing guides and current practice.
To provide feedback on the clinical practice guide, use the ACI secure link below by 20 August 2022
