Essentials of Care
Essentials of Care (EOC) is a framework for the evaluation of the essential care provided at the clinical ward and unit level. Using transformational practice development methodologies healthcare teams are engaged in the evaluation and development of the clinical care provided.
The projects in this collection support the NSW Health Essentials of Care Program.
Improving the Patient Journey for Women with High-Risk Pregnancies
Wollongong Hospital established a consultant-led pre-anaesthetic clinic for women with high-risk pregnancies. It ensures women are supported during their pregnancy and delivery, and clinicians are prepared for any medical issues that may arise.

Time to Get Active
The group activity program was expanded and used evidence based practice to inform the content and structure of the program. The new program includes tai chi and yoga, social and cognitive stimulus activities including afternoon tea, an outdoor/community access group, an indoor walking group, a standing exercise group and interactive games

Roads to Recovery
Building an inclusive work culture from the ground up: Essentials of Care (EOC) in the new Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit at Sutherland Hospital, NSW. The Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (MHRU) is a 20 bed declared facility. As a new team and unit, a great opportunity existed to build a positive work culture and practices from 'the ground up' and the staff were unified in their enthusiasm to provide recovery-oriented care and interventions. Electronic Patient Journey Boards
The Electronic Patient Journey Board is a highly visible interactive touch screen, able to feed data directly from the electronic medical record and patient administration system. It is designed to facilitate multidisciplinary handover meetings with information displayed in a highly visual medium with graphic icons and colour schemes to discretely share clinical, financial and demographic information.
