Nepean Hospital established an Obstetric Pre-anaesthetic Assessment Clinic for high-risk obstetric patients and those undergoing an elective caesarean section. Anaesthetists at the clinic assess the patient and explain anaesthetic procedures in a way that allows patients to give informed consent.

Wollongong Hospital implemented a program to optimise the pre-operative haemoglobin and iron stores of patients undergoing major elective colorectal, upper gastrointestinal tract and orthopaedic surgery. This will prevent avoidable blood transfusions and their complications, along the patient peri-operative journey.
