The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) was established in January 2010, as a direct result of the Garling Special Commission of Inquiry into Acute Care Services in NSW Public Hospitals, but its model of clinician engagement and clinician-led reform dates back many years.
The ACI's forerunners were the Greater Metropolitan Transition Taskforce (GMTT) which started in 2001 and the Greater Metropolitan Clinical Taskforce (GMCT) established in 2004.
The ACI's successful network model developed from the pioneering work of GMTT and GMCT and features central co-ordination, voluntary membership and bottom-up identification of priorities.
